DIY Finished Basements

If you are finishing your basement yourself, you need to be aware of the potential for water problems from any cracks or rod-holes in your basement walls. Rod holes and wall cracks are the main sources of water problems in basements. These water sources can spring up at almost any time, anywhere in your basement, and usually in the most inconvenient places. If there is the slightest indication of leaking, it would benefit you to take care of any potential problem before you finish the walls and floors of your basement.

Many home owners try various types of surface-applied products to stop the leaks. (See our Hydraulic Cement section for details.) These repairs don’t hold up, and when the water comes through the patch we have to remove the patch before we can properly stop the leak.  This creates extra time and expense for the homeowner.

Current waterproofing technology fixes 90% of leaks from the inside. This is good, because you avoid damaging the landscaping which happens with an outside repair.

Oakbridge can pre-waterproof areas in basements that would be very difficult and expensive to repair if a crack or leaky rod hole were to appear.
